Thyroid Treatment in Portland

If you've been told your thyroid labs are "normal" but you still feel exhausted, foggy, cold, or unable to lose weight, you're in familiar company — thyroid problems are common, and standard testing often tells only part of the story. This practice offers thorough thyroid care: complete lab panels rather than a single screening test, treatment guided by how you actually feel and not just a number, and a doctor who follows your case over time. Whether you're newly worried about your thyroid, managing Hashimoto's, or unhappy with how your current treatment is going, this is a place to get real answers.

Overview

WHAT THIS COVERS

  • Complete thyroid testing every time — TSH, Free T4, and Free T3, with antibodies when indicated

  • Diagnosis and treatment of hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's thyroiditis — including borderline cases where you have symptoms but have been told your labs are "fine"

  • Evaluation for less common causes, including central hypothyroidism, which standard TSH-only screening can miss entirely

  • Medication management with levothyroxine and liothyronine (T3), alone or in combination, dosed to your labs and your symptoms

  • Transfer of care if you're already on thyroid medication and need a new prescriber

  • Ongoing monitoring and dose adjustment over time

WHAT TO EXPECT

Care starts with a thorough first visit: your symptoms, history, prior labs, and any treatment you've tried. From there we get complete testing — often broader than what's been run before — and build a treatment plan around both your labs and your symptoms. If you're starting or changing medication, follow-up labs and visits are spaced to dial in your dose; once you're stable, monitoring drops to routine check-ins. Visits are available in person in Portland or by telehealth across Oregon and Washington.

COMMON QUESTIONS

How do you decide which thyroid medication to use?

  • Treatment starts with complete testing, not just a TSH. From there I prescribe what the evidence supports — levothyroxine, liothyronine (T3), or the two in combination — and adjust based on your follow-up labs and how you actually feel. Some patients do great on levothyroxine alone; some genuinely do better with T3 in the mix. The point is careful, individualized dosing with real follow-up.

My labs were "normal" but I still have symptoms — can you help?

  • That's one of the most common reasons patients come to this practice. A single TSH test can miss a lot, and a TSH in the "normal" range with real symptoms deserves a workup, not a shrug. We'll run a complete panel, look at your full picture, and talk honestly about whether your thyroid explains your symptoms — and what else might, if it doesn't.

Do you take insurance?

  • This is a direct-pay practice, so visits are paid out of pocket at transparent flat rates — see the pricing page. Many patients use HSA or FSA funds, and I can provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Prescriptions and labs can still be billed to your insurance as usual.

Do you see patients in Washington?

  • Yes — I'm licensed in both Oregon and Washington and see Washington patients by telehealth. Thyroid prescriptions go to your local pharmacy, and lab work can be done near you.
